‘Krishnas’ descend on Kadri Temple

Children participate in Krishna Vesha Competition at Kadri Manjunatheshwara Temple in Mangalore on Sunday.

Over 2,000 participants registered for the competition
On Sunday, at 3 p.m., 2,000 participants had registered for the Krishna-themed competitions at Kadri Manjunatha Temple in the city, according to one organiser of the Krishna competition in Kadri temple. Almost every room and courtyard in Kadri temple had a child dressed up as the Lord Krishna.
There were “Krishnas” laughing, crying, fighting, and eating ice cream. Their parents were busy helping their children dress up and could be seen rehearsing their parts.
Mothers, like Mallika and her three-year-old daughter Sambhrama, were busy feeding, dressing, and practising their dance steps along with their children. Fathers and grandparents were seen carrying supporting aids such as fake serpents (kaliya) and mountains (Govardhana).
From the main road to the temple, arches had been installed, some decorated with curd pots, banana bunches, soft drink bottles, and snacks.
The footwear section was much busier than on other days. So people were being given handwritten tokens. Pranith from Mangalore, dressed in a Krishna outfit, was seen complaining to his parents Renuka and Prakash that the dress was poking him. Eight-year-old Kunal from Surathkal was at the venue with mother Poornima.
