The Appearance of Lord Narasimha
The seventh chapter of the Srimad Bhagavatam tells the story of Narasimha and Prahlada. The demon Hiranyakashipu, angered by Vishnu killing his brother, attempts to kill Vishnu by gaining mystical powers from Brahma. Gaining the benediction of not being killed by any living entity created by Brahma or meeting death in the following conditions:
indoors or outdoors;
during the day or at night;
on the ground or in the sky;
by any weapon, nor by any human being or animal.
While Hiranyakashipu was undertaking austerities to please Brahma his wife Kayadu was under the care of Narada, a great devotee of Vishnu. Pregnant with her unborn child (Hiranyakashipu's son) Prahlada, the baby absorbs the transcendental instructions of the sage in the womb. As the child grows older his devotion to Vishnu increases.
